The glacial lakes east of Salzburg are, for good reason, one of the prime destinations in all of Austria. We visited Altauseer See, and, of course, Halstatter See with stops in Halstatt and Obertraun, and the glacial Gosausee. Our favorite Wolfgangsee included stops at St.Gilgen, Strobl with its unmissable lakeside boardwalk and St.Wolfgang. Finally, for one final lake swim, we stopped in at Mondsee. The entire area is perfect for quintessentially Austrian mountain and lake scenery, recreation, and hiking. And, although not part of this region, included are some photos from a day trip we made to Zell am See and the thermal town of Bad Gastein where we enjoyed the spa very much.
