Labor Day Long Weekend

For the first time ever, we are visiting the cabin outside of our usual Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, and summer visits. While Ash recuperates from her cold back in San Francisco, it's a boys' weekend in the mountains. So far, so good.

360 Degrees

I can already tell that the direction of my life has taken a 360 degree turn (yes, I know I should be saying 180 but that wouldn't match the photo). Last year, I had so much planning to do for my teaching and the school culture was so institutional that it took all I had to make it through the year. This year, I'm at a creatively-minded, community-centric school and planning curriculum that I believe in. What a change -- now I can give all my free time to what matters most: Ash and the boys!

 

Goodbye Phoebe Hearst, Hello Creative Arts Charter School

Last week was a very big milestone for Rai and our family. After three years at Phoebe Hearst Pre-School, Rai has finally graduated and is moving to kindergarten. It's a big deal but made so much easier on our family by the fact that Rai is joining Ashe and I at Creative Arts Charter School. The final time we dropped both boys off at Phoebe Hearst and did the "window goodbye ritual" was very difficult as we know that Ko will be there without Rai for the next two years. However, it is so special to now be in the same building as Rai all day long and we can't wait until Ko joins us here, too!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Back to S.F.

The summer is over and, returning to S.F., the fact that we have to return to the semi-normal life of work and school hit us pretty hard. We're still adjusting.

The Long Way Home - Day 7: Highway 1

Andrew Molera State Park and the beautiful stretch of Highway 1 between Carmel and San Francisco was our journey on this day. And, the summer vacation is over. Back to school for everyone.
