The summer tenants living in the third unit of our building, gave us a water toy the other day. "Water toy" may not be doing the item justice, however. It's a pink flamingo and, it's about 15 times life size. In other words, this isn't just a swimming tube, it's more of a boat. The boys had a great time on it at the beach the other day. We even tried it on the river yesterday, as a family, confirming that it can easily support all of us and functions pretty well as a watercraft. The current took us downstream a bit, Rai freaked out, but we did manage to paddle our way back, after spinning a few times, and meandering all over the river, much to the enjoyment of all those on the river beach and dock.

Hiking or Lost in the Bush?
Ko was the first to crack. The bugs, branches whipping him in the face, and fallen trees scratching up his legs and back got the best of him by kilometer two. Then, he fell in the river and that, essentially, was the end of it. It took some superhuman effort and patience to "guide" him for the next two kilometers until we completed the first mini-loop and ended up back in Ligatne. At that point, the floodgates opened and all the kids carried out a successful mutiny, choosing Sigulda's outdoor activities over another 10 km. of hiking. So, the rest of the adults (other than Ash and I) continued on while we took the four kids out for a 7-hour adventure in Sigulda! We can safely say that this worked out better for everyone...
Summer is Here.
The school year is over and summer is here. This was a tough year and we are glad that it is now behind us. Let's put some closure on it by looking back on the year that has been. The boys have had another great year of learning, inquiring, and reflecting in the PYP, Ko wished his class a goodbye by making the "3JF Machine, and the teachers sent the graduates off virtually with a great collaborative song.
