Simple is Better
We already knew it but were reminded last weekend that simple is better. We attended the wedding
ceremony of our friends Ei Ei and Chris. Keeping it simple, they rented the back cottage of a home in Oakland for the evening, had friends officiate, play music, and bring food. Despite the lack of most of the trappings of a typical wedding, we felt more love and community in this evening than we have at most weddings we've attended. It was wonderful.

Rai is 53 Months Old!
Just a few days ago, Rai celebrated his 53rd month birthday! Our son is a wonderfully bright,
passionate, and compassionate boy. Sure, he has his sociopathic moments, but those are easily forgotten when he follows with a simple, yet deconstructive question that shows that he's really getting to the heart of an issue or concept or when he looks you in the eye and tells you he loves you and that remark is coming from a place so pure you can't help but cry. We love you, Rai!

Perqs of the Job
Now that Ashe is working at the "Creative Arts" school, she is that much more connected to San
Francisco's arts community. Frequently, her school is given free tickets to all kinds of art
happenings around the city. And, that is how we found ourselves attending an interesting event at the SF Jazz Center. While a trio played some very unique music, an artist sketched whatever feelings and thoughts the music evoked.

The Inevitability of It
Well, it was inevitable: Rai is playing soccer. It seems that soccer is every child's introduction to team sport and, as hard as I tried to avoid it, it will be Rai's, too. So far, he sat pouting on the sidelines during the first practice and did not get on the field once during the second practice. Now, due to rain, his first game this afternoon may be cancelled. Let's see how this goes.

Kotaru is 35 Months Old!
Ko just turned 35 months old! One more month to go until he turns 3. That is really unbelievable. Ko, it still seems, will always be our little baby. Happy Birthday, Ko!

Happy Birthday to.... Me!
Once is an experience, twice is a tradition. This weekend, we camped out in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, for my birthday, for the second year in a row. This year was an even bigger success than last year. There is now no question left about whether or not the boys are ready for camping. They love it and have been asking when we can go again ever since we got back. As for me, I'm asking the same thing. Every single thing we are wrapped in in the city was left far behind and out of mind when it was just us, our tent, and a campfire under the giant sequoias and stars. I can't think of a better way to spend my birthday. Thank you Ashe, Rai and Ko!
