Summer Holiday: A Day in Southwest Slovenia

Following my journey through Italy, I had a week planned in Slovenia. However, I changed my mind and, instead, drove 7 hours straight, back home to Belgrade. Why did I change my mind? Well, in the span of just 24 hours, four things occurred that signaled to me that, perhaps, my trip should come to an end. First, while driving on a small road in Italy, the car in front of me suddenly veered to the right, hit a pole, and exploded (the driver was badly injured, but okay). Second, while getting gas, I bought a chicken sandwich and, for the first time in about 20 years, ate meat. My body was asking for nutrition. Third, during the afternoon of my first day in Slovenia, dark, dark thunder clouds rolled in and a thunderstorm like no other that I've experienced while on a highway washed over us for several hours. Rain was forecast for days to come. Fourth, and most importantly, Lauki was tired. And so, after visiting Postojna Cave, famous for the train ride that whisks visitors through the first couple of kilometers of the cave network, and the nearby Predjama Castle, I headed home. After 7 weeks of sleeping in the car, our bed at home was very welcome.
What a trip!

Summer Holiday: Friuli-Venezia Giulia

And so, my time in Italy came to an end. I finished with the easternmost province, bordering Slovenia: Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Here, just three stops: the mountain town of Forni di Sopra, then the expansive city in the plains, Udine, and, finally, grand and ornate Trieste. Arrivederci, Italia!
