We've spent days and days enjoying the beauty of Gauja National Park with the Gauja River flowing through the heart of this beautiful, hilled region. On this day, we decided to follow the Gauja to its end, where it meets the Bay of Riga near the town of Carnikava. Following a dirt road into the pine forest, we managed to get our car stuck in the dunes. Continuing on foot, we emerged on one of the most beautiful beaches we've seen in Latvia. On the way home, we detoured past Birini Manor, also known as "the birthday cake". You'll see why.
