For most of this trip, we would set a homebase in Abruzzo and explore the mountain region there. On the way, we passed through Marche province with visits to: medieval Gradara, inland gems Genga, Templo del Valadier, and Serra San Quirico, the Ancona coast and beaches, the pilgrimage site at Loreto, Torre di Palme, the medieval city of Ascoli Piceno, and the beautiful Civitella del Tronto with its spectacular mountain views.
