For this holiday, we headed to the hinterlands of Romania, the far north, bordering Hungary and Ukraine. Passing through Arad, we began in Oradea, one of Europe's finest art nouveau cities and thermal centers. From there, we traveled north to Baia Mare, access town for the very rural Maramures region, known for it's old ways and wooden churches. Then, it was the university city of Cluj-Napoca and the historic fort at Alba Iulia.
