Future Math Major

As the school year drew to a close, we celebrated by having our annual 'math party'. Although, that may sound like an oxymoron, it's quite the opposite. Us Math Teachers know how to have a good time (in the classroom and beyond)! If you want to confirm that math and fun are not mutually exclusive, just ask your Aunt Kate about summer math camp, Rai!
The potluck was a great success and everyone had a great time. Everyone had someone to hang out with, share stories with, and talk about summer plans with. Even Rai had someone he could relate to. Baby Benjamin, the 3-month old baby of another math teacher, was there. The 5 week age gap that separates Rai and Ben was no barrier at all.
Rai was a bit shocked at first to see that in this world, there are others like him (this was his first experience with another infant). Once he got over that shock, he quickly realized that he has much more in common with Ben than with all those giants hovering over the two of them.
"We're both immobile. We both drink lots of milk and milk only. We're the only ones in the room wearing diapers. We both like to wave our arms around wildly. And, we both like to gurgle incomprehensible sounds," thought Rai. On second thought, that may be describing some others in the room as well.
Actually, it's as if Rai and Ben were on the same wavelength even before they arrived at the math party. When choosing from the several hundred outfits that he has available to him, Rai chose a lime green onesie with the words "Future Math Major" on it. An obvious choice maybe, but incredibly, Ben arrived wearing the very same thing! In the world of adults, this would be an embarassing episode but for Rai and Ben, it made them a hit at the party!
