The Many Uses of a Sled

Until our Christmas week at the cabin, we thought that a sled has just one function: to transport a rider from the top to the bottom of a hill covered in snow. After this week, we now know that the sled is an indispensable asset while living in a water-less cabin with no winter road access.

Sled as Conveyor Belt
First, since we had to park our cars near the main road, about 200 meters from the cabin, we used the sleds to haul in all our luggage and supplies (including water).

Sled as Vehicle
Then, whenever we went out for a walk or to the hotsprings, the sled would be your ride.

Sled as Entertainment
Other times, when you'd get bored of being indoors and we just needed to entertain you for a bit, we'd put you in the sled and pull you around the cabin a bit. That was marginally entertaining for you, at least enough to pacify you during your most antsy moments.
Sled as Bed
When a little far from the cabin and with no bed in sight, the sled made for a great little Rai-sized bed.

Sled as Toilet
Pack it in, pack it out. So goes the expression. We learned intimately the meaning of this phrase during our week at the cabin. No running water means no tap water, a tougher time washing dishes and, our personal favorite: no toilets. I would say "imagine this" but, by the time you read this, I'm sure you'll already be acquainted with the details so Rai, think: bathroom, bucket, plastic bag, and hauling the results of all that, by sled, to the nearest State Park bathroom where we could cut a bunch of plastic bags open and flush their contents away. We would affectionately call these trips the 'Poo Runs'. The fun never stopped at the cabin!
Sled as Toboggan (finally!)
After all that, you'd think we'd forgotten the intended use for a sled or that we wouldn't actually want to sit on the sleds following a handful of 'poo runs' but, we remembered and we were excited to try out the sled run on the steepest part of the mountain near our cabin. Still, a local dog turned our sledding experience into a poo run of his own.
