Once an island on the great Pannonian Sea which covered the plains north of Belgrade, most of Hungary, eastern Croatia, and more, Fruska Gora is now a wonderful "moutain" retreat on Novi Sad's doorstep. Historically, it developed as a monastic center making hikes on the mountain even more interesting with, seemingly, a monastery around every bend.
