Treetop Walk

High on our list of must-do hikes in Singapore's surprisingly extensive National Park system was the Treetop Walk in the rainforest around the MacRitchie Reservoir. The 250 meter long suspension bridge, 25 meters above the ground, passing through the canopy of the forest is just a tiny, yet thrilling, piece of a large network of trails in this park. While Rai and Ko listened to Magic Tree House audiobooks on their iPods, Ash and I explored this real life magic treehouse. Our loop hike, at 8 km, was longer than we expected yet Rai hung in there and did the entire length of it, and we got to see lots of birds, butterflies, macaques, and even a Malayan Coral Snake, which I nearly picked up because it was so beautiful but am happy that I didn't now that I've read just how venomous it is. What a great hike -- the first of many as we plan to explore one main trail in each of the National Parks each weekend!
