for three days now and they are having the time of their lives. At $4 a day for rental, the price is right and, more importantly, it gives us some really great leverage with the boys. Instead of trying to sell "a trip out into the rice fields" (which may not sound too enticing to a 6 and 4 year old), we can now say, "let's go for a scooter ride into the rice fields." This hasn't failed us yet and has given us the chance to see what we want while keeping the boys smiling, too. And, the whole family on one scooter thing is something I've always wanted to do. I am living my dream. Now we just need to get ten bags of groceries and a few chicken baskets hanging off the sides and we'll truly be locals. This brings us to the hotels. You can get a lot for very little here and, as we're not backpacking for a year this time, our budget allows us to splurge from $4 a night to $30 a night and for this amount, we are living luxuriously. Again, private bungalows, lush gardens, and swimming pools are something it hasn't taken the boys too long to get used to. Scooters and fancy hotels: the boys are having the holiday of a lifetime. And, so are we.
