Museum Day

Singapore has about a dozen great museums and many other good museums. With so many on our f exhibits to see, we decided to start our visits today. We made it to the fantastic Asian Civilizations Museum and the beautiful Peranakan Museum, which focuses on the mixed race heritage and culture of the Peranakan people, an important historical minority group in Singapore. One of the highlights of a museum visit in Singapore is that many of the museums are housed in the grand buildings that were the administrative offices of the British Colonial government in Singapore.  The boys enjoyed both visits but appreciated the much more colorful and interactive nature of the Peranakan Museum. Even after this visit, Ash and I remain a bit confused about who exactly the Peranakan people are as it seems that the only criteria to be part of this cultural group is that one is of mixed race descent. On the way home, we cut through historic Fort Canning Park to get a glimpse at the old British fort and the lush park grounds themselves. It's great to have this park to one side of us and the Botanic Gardens on the other.
