Working on That Self-Confidence

Rai, both your parents grew up in situations that foster self-confidence.
Your Mom was given a Fast Pass at five years old and told to fend for herself on the tough streets of San Francisco. At 3 years of age, your Dad was playing with snakes and scorpions in the family yard in Africa. Born to parents who, in their own lives, had to quickly conquer fears and obstacles, there is no doubt that you will also be raised with a 'deal with it' kind of attitude. That's right, don't expect to be shielded, pampered or protected from the dangers of the world.
You are no chicken. To confirm this, we put a chicken beside you the other day and indeed, you looked nothing like it.
You're already exhibiting signs of your developing resilience. You complain about nothing and barely cry. As your Grandpa says, you "go with the flow". Your early 'toughness' is the result of the combination of us exposing you to a lot of different experiences already and the security you feel from the abundance of love and affection that you receive.
With all this self-confidence, you are definitely one of those boys who could wear pink.

  1. FDR (you'll learn about him in school, Rai) once said, "The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today". And so far I haven't seen any doubts on that face of yours. I think your dad is right: New experiences daily wrapped in packages of love could very well be the solution to self-confidence for all of us.
