While walking through Golden Gate Park the other day, we looked at the tiny community garden

that is hidden away in the forest not far from our entrance to the Park. Rising on thick, strong stalks, the clusters of flowers that fill that garden stood at least five feet tall. We were amazed because just a few weeks ago, those same flowers rose to our waists only.

The damp fog and afternoon sunshine had given those flowers the energy to make this incredible growth spurt.
Back at home, we were witness to an even more incredible growth spurt. As you may have noticed, Rai, there is a tall poster of a sequoia tree in your bedroom. It's

not just an image of a redwood tree, but also a growth chart. Your Mom bought that for you at Muir Woods knowing that it would be fun to use the height scale along the edge of this poster to chart your growth over these coming years.
The other day, we added your '9 week height' to the chart. We were amazed to see that you stood a full 2 inches taller now than you did at 7

weeks. Intuitively we can see your growth daily and weekly but this was one of the few tangible measures that we have of your incredible growth! How you grow so much in such a short amount of time, drinking only milk, is one of the wonders of nature. If you were able to continue this rate of growth (1 inch per week), you could be as tall as your Dad in just a year or so!
Yesterday, we visited your Mom's old friend Katie (you may have noticed her comments on this site) in San Jose. Playing with her 2-year old, Joel,

we marveled at how much he's changed and grown. We couldn't stop thinking about just how big a 2-year old is. It seemed like just yesterday that we held baby Joel in our arms. For us, it was a reminder that the growth we've seen you make in these past 2 months is only the beginning of years and years of continuous growth to come. Amazing.
