After what felt like just a short flight over to Europe, we made it safely to Stockholm. We flew over Manitoba, Greenland, Norway, and arrived in Stockholm mid-day but, as it turns out, the time of day is unimportant since the sky is light most of the day and the sun disappears for only a few hours in the middle of the night. Our friends picked us up at the main train station and drove us over to the island of Lidingo and the tiny hamlet of Elfvik from where we were taken by rowboat to their private island. We have one of the five rustic cabins to ourselves and it's just big enough for two mattresses but that is not a complaint. A full glass wall looks out to the water with forested islands seen in the distance. This is an amazing spot and we are grateful to have this beautiful place to call home for our four days in Stockholm. Incredibly, this is the closest private island to the city center and although our friend has owned it for eighteen years, it remains a time machine taking visitors back to the early 20th century. Svanholmen (Swan Island) is our home and we can't imagine staying in a more beautiful place!
