Gamla Stan

Gamla Stan is the geographic center and the heart of Stockholm. It is here, on this small island, that the city was established. Today, it is the oldest part of the city, a maze of cobbled lanes and tiny, atmospheric plazas flanked by two or three storey medieval buildings in reds, oranges, and yellows. It was the perfect place to begin our exploration of Stockholm, giving us a strong sense of how old, grand, and connected to the water this city is.
