Our New Hometown: Pinki

Welcome to our new home: Pinki, Latvia! Our school is just 10 minutes walk from our apartment in this small village with only two tiny grocery stores and one restaurant in the center of town. Everywhere is quiet here but our apartment lies at the end of a particularly quiet street with the forest on two sides. A few minutes through the forest brings us to town center and a few minutes beyond that, the local lake and then kilometers and kilometers of forested countryside. Foraging, too, is a serious pastime here in Latvia and this is berry season. We've already picked wild blueberries and strawberries out by the beach so we were excited to find blueberry patches along the forest trail just outside of Pinki. Can't wait for mushroom season! This pastoral lifestyle sounds great to us but when things do get too quiet for us here, Riga is only 15 kilometers away which will be a short 10 minute drive once we get our car... which should be in the next day or two. Loving our new home and appreciating the change of pace following two years in busy Singapore.
