On the Danube, just upstream from New Belgrade is the town of Zemun. Minutes from Belgrade, it could not be any more different from the big city. It was the final frontier town at the border between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Ottoman Empire and, to this day, it retains an aesthetic that is very different than it's big city neighbor.
