Temple of Saint Sava

Belgrade's St.Sava Church is the spiritual heart of the Serbian Orthodox Church and one of the largest places of worship in the world. Construction began in 1935 and continued, intermittently until 2004. Even today, the interior mosaics are unfinished. During WWII, the gold-leaf covered pillars were covered in brick to keep them from being pillaged by the invading and occupying Germans. More recently, Russia has donated substantial funds to keep the gold flowing and the result is an interior that is completely covered in golden mosaics. It's an incredible sight.
