It's hard for a week to go by in Singapore without hearing the name "Penang". The name of this Malaysian island comes up often. Penang is a vacation spot of choice for many. Flights can be found for under $100 and hotel deals abound. At 45 minutes away by plane, it makes for a quick, cheap and easy long weekend getaway but also offers enough to see and do to make for a great week long holiday. Penang is also one of Malaysia's premier tourist locations and the food is known to be some of the best in all of Asia. Somehow, despite all this, Ash and I have never been here. And now, we're here. For our first two nights in Penang, we stayed far from most of the action, way out at Batu Ferringhi beach. It gave us a beach to call home while we visited some of the more out of the way things to see on the island. On this first day, we visited the Thai and Burmese monasteries and the huge Kek Lok Si Chinese temple. Of course, we ended with an afternoon on the beach for the boys. It was a great first day on the island!
