3 Weeks in South East Asia - Day 4: Ipoh

We've been to Malaysia many times but, somehow, the city of Ipoh remained off our itinerary every

time... until now. Reading about the the mix of history, culture, and scenery in this city, we knew that it would be the perfect stop between Melaka and Langkawi. Ipoh did not disappoint. The Kinta Valley in which it rests is set within a forest of karst spires, rising dramatically from an otherwise flat landscape. Within several of the caves in these mountains are century-old temples and along the eastern fringe of the city, geothermal activity brings up hot waters from deep underground. This is a city we really enjoyed spending a few nights in especially the location of our guesthouse within a mushroom farm on the very edge of town and right under a pair of towering peaks. For the boys, an evening at the Lost World Hot Springs and Spa and a 10 p.m. visit to the Petting Zoo was an evening they will never forget!
