Summer in Australia - Days 8 and 9: The Great Ocean Road

Australia's answer to the Pacific Highway in the U.S., the Great Ocean Road is a beautiful stretch of coastal highway for several hundred kilometers west of Melbourne. We felt right at home along the winding clifftop road and in the lush, fern-filled canyons just inland. And, along this natural part of the coast, we first experienced just how wild this continent is. Everywhere we turned, birds, birds, and more birds. Our favorites: the cockatoos and the lorikeets. We also found some koalas in the coastal eucalyptus forest and, of course, kangaroos! This is what road-tripping is all about!
