Many people begin, spend, and end their entire holiday in Australia on
the Gold Coast. In fact, it is estimated that the area gets 60,000+
tourists per day. Knowing that this tourist madness was just a day or
two away for us, we decided to head inland one more time. This time, we
drove into what is known as the Gold Coast Hinterland, the very green
hills and valleys that fill the caldera of an ancient volcano. We spent
one day in Lamington National Park and the next in Springbrook National
Park. We took some long cliff, rainforest, and waterfall hikes in each
park in order to get our fill of nature before we hit the urban tail end
of our time in Australia. We are very glad that we made this detour.
