A few minutes from everywhere in Latvia is a forest of tall, thin pine trees, and meandering, sandy trails. Whereas some may say that all these forests and trails are all the same, for us, they are all unique, even if the distinguishing feature is a particular tree, or small hill, or a pond with a distinct shoreline. With this mindset, we set out for the hills north of Ogre to hike in the Lielie Kangari (the "big kangaroo) wilderness, followed by another walk in Zilie Kalni (the "blue hills"). After a day out in the forests, it was easy to finish off with some good food at the Ezitis Migla ("Hedgehog in the Fog") restaurant in Ogre's quaint center. These are the kinds of days that we love most in Latvia.
