Life in a Cast: Day 1

One short day can make all the difference in the world.
Yesterday, we were depressed about your broken leg and could barely come to terms with the fact that you would have to survive a month without walking. Today is a new day -- everything has changed. We're now excited about your broken leg and hope that you break the other leg very soon.
Just kidding. However, everything went so well today that we're now optimistic about the weeks or month to come. The turnaround began with your visit to the hospital to have your cast set. The doctor couldn't believe that there was absolutely no swelling around the injury. This allowed them to go ahead with the cast with no further interventions necessary.
Next, you sat through the entire procedure completely calm. The doctor couldn't help remarking that he's never worked with an infant so patient and accepting of a cast. Most babies squirm and scream. You sat quietly and did not move an inch. Then, another piece of good news. The doctor said that it is likely that the cast will only be necessary for 2 weeks instead of 1 month.
The final piece of good news is that the cast is almost indestructible. Unlike the two days with the splint, we no longer have to worry about you putting pressure and weight on your leg. You can attempt to stand and crawl freely with no concern of further injury.
Now that we all (including you) have accepted your new status quo, we were ready for the final step: writing on the cast. We were the first to add our messages. Mom wrote: I love you. Dad wrote: Injury stories are cool. At your birthday party next weekend, all your guests will have lots more to add for sure!
