Ten minutes in the Nuwera Eliya, the highest town in Sri Lanka, told us that it was not a place that we wanted to stay in so we cancelled our two nights at a local guesthouse and took a tuk tuk out of town, heading for Ramboda Falls, a waterfall twenty-five kilometers away. It's a fairly famous waterfall in the area so we assumed that there would be some accommodation options nearby. Unfortunately, we were wrong. The tiny town of Ramboda near the falls has only three hotels and all three are, by Sri Lankan standards, high end places. So, with this unplanned splurge, we ended up in a hotel room significantly bigger than our condo in Singapore. The view from our balcony was incredible and the falls were just a short walk away. From our balcony, we saw a beautiful sunset and equally beautiful sunrise and spent the next day at the falls. This will, by far, be the fanciest place we stay in during our entire trip. Ash got the best sleep of our trip so far and it was hard to get her out of bed in the morning. And, Ramboda Falls, made it all worthwhile. The upper falls, a long enough hike from the road to escape civilization, were the perfect place to lose a few hours.
