On my way back from San Francisco, where I was sworn in as a U.S. Citizen, I had a full day in Taipei. I visited Taipei once, many years ago, but had very little time to explore the city back then and hardly remember my visit at all. This time, I arrived armed with lots of information and many sites that I was interested in seeing. I hit the streets and walked all day long. Key stops: the monolithic Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial plaza, the old town along the river with its many atmospheric streets and old temples, the incredible National Palace Museum with its unbelievable collection of 8000 years of Chinese history, the hot spring town: Beitou, Taipei 101, and the night market at Shilin.
