We thought we knew all there is to know about the south end of Lake Tahoe so it was nice to
discover the Tallac Historic Site. The lakeshore site is a large public park that preserves three historic residences: The Baldwin, Pope,
and Valhalla estates. The nearly century-old homes are a great window into the opulent lifestyles of the rich and famous in the days when there was no road to Tahoe. These richies would make a journey of several days in order to reach the lake's shore by train. Walking the grounds and interiors of these mansions gives a perfect look into what Lake Tahoe once was, not too long ago.
