Death Ride: Tour de California Alps

Despite the fact that Rai has been bragging about the fact that he'll ride in the Death Ride for several months now, as it turns out, he didn't compete in the event this year. I think that he finally realized what he was getting himself into. The ride includes 5 mountain passes with a total altitude gain of 15,000 feet, and total distance of 129 miles -- he can barely handle a 10 foot climb in the city so it was pretty unlikely he'd be able to do all this climbing in California's Alps.
If you can compete, however, the next best thing is to cheer the racers on. Along with the rest of Markleeville town (all 150 people), we sat on the front lawn of the County Courthouse and watched the riders cruise by, 4 passes done, 1 to go. Some quit at this point and just took a left in town, heading for the hotsprings. Good choice, we thought. So, we missed our chance this year, but there's always next year, right? We'll make sure they have a hearst ready for us at the finish line.
