When In Trouble with the Law...

Four miles down the road from your cabin, Rai, is the moutain metropolis of Markleeville. This quiet town of less than 100 residents is the capital of California's least populated county, Alpine County. Despite a downtown that is just a handful of small buildings at a T-junction, the town does have a lot of history.
For a century and a half, Markleeville has been a mining and ranching center, an important town along one of the mountain passes that connects California to Nevada. While at the cabin this past week, we visited Markleeville's historic district on top of the hill. Up there, a schoolhouse, old jail, and a few other ancient buildings remind visitors of the town's illustrious past.
Even more impressive is Markleeville's location. This particular spot along the spine of the Sierra Nevada has many beautiful mountains and alpine lakes. Nearby is the wonderful Mokelumne Wilderness with its many hikes and rugged peaks.
Despite all this, Markleeville remains untouched and remote. There is probably no smaller town in the entire State and this spot may just be as far from any big city as one could get in the Golden State. For this reason, we noticed while walking by the County Courthouse, that Markleeville is a Victim and Witness Protection Program location.
So, Rai, if you ever find yourself needing to run away and hide, then our cabin may be the perfect place. Hide out there and rest assured that no one will ever find you. After all, that's why we like it there so much!
