When we first moved to San Francisco after all our travels, it seemed that we had friends from

Korea or Canada visiting every few months. Even as I got to know San Francisco, I showed it off to all those friends who were here for a weekend, a week, or longer. Now that we're old, most of our friends have

settled down a bit more so out of town visitors are not as frequent as they used to be. The drought has been broken, though, as we had an old friend come through town with his girlfriend this past week. It was great to see Grant and to meet his girlfriend, Jean. It was also great to be reminded just how beautiful San Francisco is by folks from one of Canada's big cities: Toronto. Although we may dream of more trees and a more quiet

neighborhood, we know that we're pretty lucky to be living in this amazing city with the park just down the hill and the Pacific Ocean a few minutes away! Rai may have this image of all of Canada being one great wilderness where birds sit on your arm as you spend your days in flowering meadows but, apparently, there are places up there that are more urban and hectic than San Francisco will ever be.
