Super Sunday

Rai, today is Super Sunday. Actually, every Sunday is a 'super Sunday' for our family because we're all here together and have the entire day to spend as a family. Still, the media won't call every Sunday 'super' on our behalf, so we'll have to wait for the 'super' to be added once a year when two teams of heavily padded men get on a field, toss an elliptical ball around and hit each other so hard that many are left with concussions and sprained or broken limbs. What's that, Rai? Are we still living in the Roman age of gladiators and bloodsport? No, but today's plebeians continue to enjoy watching others physically pummel each other.
Yes, clearly your Dad is no football fan. Still, I believe a lesson can be drawn from today's Super Bowl. At times in your life, Rai, you will find yourself in win/lose situations. Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you will lose. No problem. You showed up and, if you truly did all you could, then you can be nothing but proud. Other times, your hard work will pay off and you will win. At those times, you have reason to celebrate but celebrate with humility.
What you need to avoid are victories that come too easy, without any hard work because those aren't victories at all. Moreover, there is nothing wrong with losing unless that loss is the result of a poor effort, a lack of discipline and heart.
You will soon learn, Rai, that its not the win or loss that matters, but what you put into the competition that matters. If you're doing your best, you'll enjoy every moment of it!
