A 'First' We Weren't Waiting For

Today, Rai, we celebrate one of those 'firsts' that no parent is excited about; your first cold.
You woke up with a runny nose and a fever, threw up a few times and have maintained that fever throughout the day. The other 'first' that comes with this is your first frown. This is the first time we've seen you look so down. There's a sadness in your eyes that breaks our hearts. And, those tears in your eyes bring tears to ours.
The only bright side to this is that you're more cuddly than normal. Usually, you're so eager to explore, grab things, move around, that it's hard to get a few minutes of holding and hugging you without you trying to wriggle your way to freedom. Today is different. You have no energy to move or play. You actually want to be held. You spent most of the morning lovingly laying in your Mom's arms and fell asleep there for three hours for the first time in months. There's a silver lining to every dark cloud. We'll take the energetic and wild Rai over the sick one any day. Get better soon, love.
