Labor Day: Mother's of the World Unite!

Labor and birth giving are the hardest tasks any person can endure in their lifetime. Every man gains incredible respect and admiration for the woman in his life when he witnesses the pain she will endure and the perseverance she exhibits when going through amazing work that is labor.
Considering that, it is refreshing to know that a widely recognized holiday has been established honoring the countless women who have successfully, miraculously, and incredibly endured the rite of passage that is labor (yes, I do know that Labor Day celebrates a different kind of labor, but let's pretend otherwise).
We celebrated Labor Day by recounting, minute by minute, the labor that your Mother went through while giving birth to you. This took about 26 hours. The other negative two hours of our Labor Day were spent relaxing and going for a walk in our old neighborhood. We don't need much of an excuse to visit The Haight.
Romantics at heart, we walked the same route we've walked hundreds of times before: our favorite walk in the old neighborhood that takes us through Cole Valley, up the steep hill to Tank Hill, then around the back of the hill and into the eucalyptus forest trails of Mt.Sutro before returning by way of the steps from Edgewood Terrace.
We love that walk, we love the views and we've almost forgotten what it was like to do this kind of walk without you. By definition, labor is difficult but when the reward for hard labor is something as incredible as you, it can easily be forgotten. Your Mom thought she'd never forget but, already, she's beginning to...
