Two royal families controlled modern Serbia in the 19th century. One finished on top and built the current Royal Palace which can be visited by special tour for two months of the year. Heading down hill, through the forest, in the beautiful Topcider Park is the former residence of Prince Milos. Both offer a great look into modern Serbian history and how the royals had to live between two worlds: that of western Europe and that of the Ottoman Empire.
