Scandinavian Road Trip - Days 31-33: Hoga Kusten

The Hoga Kusten (High Coast) is a remarkable area. During the last ice age, the weight of glaciers pushed this land down. Once the ice receded, the land, free of the weight of the ice, began to rebound, rising back up from the sea. This happened quickly at first but slowed over time. Over the last 20000 years, it has risen about 800 meters, creating the world's highest coastline at a point 286 meters above sea level. Today, the land continues to rise at a geologically rapid rate of 1 cm per year, meaning that, at this point, Sweden and Norway will be joined by a land bridge within 2000 years. We will make sure to return then to see how the scenery and life here has changed then. Today, however, we enjoyed a very relaxing three days here visiting beautiful villages and hiking rocky, forested trails.
