Scandinavian Road Trip - Days 26-27: Romsdalsfjorden and Alesund
Still heading north, we traveled the famous Trollstigen highway, making a high mountain pass on our way to the town of Andalsnes near the end of Romdalsfjorden. As we neared the top of the pass, clouds came in and a heavy mist covered the mountains. We had been enjoying one of the best summers in many years in Scandinavia so we thought that the famous dark skies and rains of Norway had finally caught up with us. We hoped for clearer skies in the morning. Unfortunately, the visibility was even worse. Still, we had to continue, so we began the descent down the switchback highway that this route is known for. Lucky for us, the clouds and mist sat high. The scenery opened up and we even got in a beautiful hike, the easy Littlefjellet trail, quoted as the "least work for the most scenery" in all of Norway. From there, we headed for the coast in the beautiful, art nouveau city of Alesund, the closest we have been to the Atlantic since our time in Bergen. On these long, nature-based trips, it's always great to get into a city once in a while and Alesund gave all of us the city day we needed!
