A couple weeks ago, Singapore's latest subway line opened with 14 brand new stations. This line is an extension of the existing Downtown Line, the blue line, which loops around downtown and, now, heads north into a heavily populated area that, until now, hasn't had any metro service. To celebrate this new extension, free rides were offered to all riders on Dec.5, a preview day before the line officially opens at the end of December. Naturally, we joined the subway party and went on a station to station treasure hunt, collecting crafts and stamps. It was great fun and allowed us to finish at Bugis, a fun part of town with Singapore's largest outdoor market and access to Waterloo Street, once a street that connected Singapore's multi-ethnic religious communities. Today, a Buddhist temple, Christian Church, Hindu Temple, and Jewish Synagogue all share the same block. After all the excitement, the boys still had energy enough to attend their friend's birthday party. What a day!
