long, four years, countless hours spent guiding and working with students elected to student government. In many ways, the commitment has been more than we bargained for with weekends spent at car washes and 4:30 a.m. starts at numerous marathons or triathlons all in the name of fundraising. Last weekend, we (and the Class of 2012) got to celebrate and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Saturday night was Prom night. 
Way back in 2008, we reserved a night at San Francisco's amazing City Hall. Last Saturday, we had to give ourselves a pat on the back as this incredible venue was immeasurably better than any hotel conference hall we could have rented. Our students matched the venue in style and elegance. It was a real reward to see our students all grown up, dressed to the hilt, and acting... well, like sophisticated, young adults. That is, until the music came on. Just one or two hip-hop songs into the DJ's set, many of our students were
back to their usual selves. If you haven't witnessed the spectacle that is a high school dance in the past few years, you may be shocked (appalled, even) to see what it looks like. You know those movie scenes in which some shady characters meet at a strip club. Yup, that's pretty much what it looked like, lap dancing and all. Fortunately, most students keep their clothes on. I guess we have to take the bad with the good and hope that one day our kids grow up a bit more and ponder over the ridiculous and degrading show they put on when they were teens.
