Congratulations, Neil Thompson, PhD !

Seven years ago, we met our friends Neil and Kate outside a museum in Luang Prabang, Laos. Far from home, halfway around the world, we learned that day that not too many months later, the four of us would be neighbors. Ashe and I would return to San Francisco, and Neil and Kate would move to Berkeley to begin Graduate studies. Now, years later, Neil and Kate are two of our best Bay Area friends. They have been with us as we've gone from family of two, to three, to four and have participated in that joy throughout the years. So, it was bittersweet today when we celebrated Neil's graduation from Berkeley. We're excited to see him come to the successful end of his long graduate journey but know, at the same time, that this means we will have to wish our friends farewell in the near future as he is wooed away from the Bay Area by some university seeking his expertise. If we can just keep Rai and Ko in the "Raibrary" for a few more years, they too can be Berkeley grads a few decades from now.
