Following their joyride through the streets of San Francisco, Rai and Ko have not been allowed in
the front seats of the car. That joyride was a clear example of children taking advantage of a line that was not clearly drawn in the sand. It was a parental wake-up call for us: some rules must be applied sternly without fluctuation. From now on, "unlicensed children under the age of 16 will not drive cars in this family" is a rule that will be made clear to our boys.
Still, this isn't a jail and complete deprivation of the "driving instinct" may be a little inhumane so we've offered the boys some toy cars at a local playground to get wean them off of the real thing. After getting a taste of the power that only a Honda CR-Vs engine can offer, I don't think the boys were too impressed by the toy car at the playground. Like I told them, though, "driving a plastic car around the playground is better than nothing, right?" Right. And, if they want some more movement, more thrills, there's always those bobbing things on springs at the playground.
