Look... a Squirrel !

Based on the fact that newborns are virtually blind, it's been hard for me to let go of the notion that you, Rai, cannot see too well. For your first month or two, it seemed that you just stared blankly out into space and that you had no recognition at all of objects in front of you.
Eventually, you began to track moving objects so we knew that you could see what was happening in front of you but, was it just light and shadow that you could see or could you see the fine details of those things you were looking at?
Obviously, you've grown considerably and are practically a little boy now, so the sight issues of infantdom are a thing of the past. Still, I often wonder what exactly it is that you're seeing and focusing on when you stare out at the world in front of you.
In the Park the other day, you confirmed that your eyes are as good as (better than) the rest of us when, as we rolled you by one of the lakes, you suddenly got very excited. We looked at you, then ahead in the direction of your gaze. What were you seeing? What was so exciting that it had you clapping and shouting out?
Finally, we saw what you had spotted. Far off in a tree branch, high in a tree: a squirrel. From where we stood, it was tiny. Still, you saw it clearly even as it sat without moving. Now that's 20-20 vision!
