Life OUT of a Cast: Day 1

A week ago, Rai (you may have repressed that memory), we went to the hospital to have your cast removed. An x-ray revealed that your fracture had healed very well! So, the vibrational saw came out and the work began.
You were petrified with fear. Actually, that expression is completely inaccurate. 'Petrified' implies a suspension of movement, a stillness. That was nothing like you during those tense seconds as that incredibly loud saw did its work. You screamed and squirmed, you turned red like a lobster and cried. The Barney video that was turned on on your behalf did little to calm you. It may even have aggravated you more (but, don't worry, that's a normal reaction to Barney).
So, it was a great relief once the cast had been successfully removed. You were finally free of that stiff leg... or were you? It turned out that your leg was still tender. A new cast was put on, this time for a week.
That week has passed so we were back at the hospital today to get the cast removed, for good.
It is said that certain events can trigger repressed memories, bringing to mind experiences one doesn't even remember having lived through. Today, that happened for you. The sound of the saw caused a mental dam to collapse. In an instant, the memory of the removal of your cast so long, long ago, came flooding into your mind. You screamed and wailed.
At home, we wanted to get a photo of you playing with your cast, as if celebrating it's long-awaited removal. Unfortunately, every time we brought it close to you, you would shout out in protest. We had to settle for a photo of the cast in the foreground, partially out of sight, as you smiled at Mom above the cameraman. Now, you can peacefully sleep off all that trauma, as if the past 3 weeks never happened.
