For our Spring Break this year, we decided to, finally, take a trip to Slovenia. Somehow, although as close as the other countries we routinely visit, Slovenia feels a little more distant and inaccessible. It could be that it is more connected to Europe and much less culturally connected to Serbia, Croatia, and their other neighbors. This trip was all about the mountains as we picked two places to settle into, each with access to a particular mountainous region in central and western Slovenia. After passing through Ljubljana, we settled into our place in Kamnik. From there, we had easy access to the Kamniska Bistrica valley and the high plain, old herding settlement at Velika Planina. On our way to our next "home", a cabin high in the mountains overlooking Mt.Triglav, we visited a series of picturesque foothill villages: Kranj, Skofja Loka, Jamnik, and Radovljica. Our cabin was by the ski run in Planina pod Golico and offered great access to famous Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, as well as the more remote but exceptionally beautiful Kranjska Gora. All in all, we were thoroughly reminded of the stunning, green, and mountainous escape that Slovenia offers us, anytime we need it!
