The wonderful thing about this drive through this part of Europe is that, although we were visiting countries that we spent a lot of time in during our 5 months of backpacking through Europe, we made sure to visit places we've never been to before. Back in the day, our reliance on Europe's rail routes often limited us to the major cities and although we did get out into the countyside often, it wasn't often enough. This time, our rental car gave us the freedom to get to anywhere we wanted so we planned a route that would make for a great road trip, a trip that would bring us through places we never had a chance to visit before. Antwerp was one such place. It didn't make the cut when having to choose the top spots throughout the entire continent but, when limited to a 300 km radius around Brussels, it was a perfect place to spend a half day before our flight back home. Every city, has a place or memory that will stay with us. In Antwerp, it was the Plantin-Moretus Musuem, the site of one of Europe's first and most important industrial printing presses!
