Singapore Botanic Gardens

Singapore is a green city, no doubt. It's tropical and it shows. Every road, boulevard and open space is filled with huge trees and flowering plants. There are plenty of parks and green spaces, too. In fact something like 50% of the island is protected parkland. Yet, with all these trees and plants all around, the Singapore Botanic Gardens somehow manage to fall into pretty much everyone's "Singapore Top Ten" list. Why? The sheer diversity of plants represented. Established during British Colonial times, the Garden was a repository for all plants and trees collected from this region of the world. Today, there is more botanical variety represented in this one park than in the entire North American continent. It's no wonder that Singapore has applied to add the Botanic Gardens to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. Taking our first stroll through the Gardens today, we were amazed by the variety of plants and the quality of landscaping and design. Although we walked the Gardens from one end to the other, dozens of trails and mini-gardens lay undiscovered. We look forward to moving to our new place as it will be just minutes from the Gardens. This will be our neighborhood park and we couldn't ask for a better one!
