Trip to Winnipeg - Day 15: A Maze in Corn

When I was young, the Trappist Monastery ruins in St.Norbert weren't doing too well and not just because they were in ruins. They had become a place for teens to hang out at night with nothing but graffiti and empty cans left behind. When we visited the St.Norbert Farmer's Market two weeks ago, I looked up the Monastery online and was happy to find that the Dharma Center of Winnipeg had helped to build a peace pagoda on the monastery grounds. Louis Riel said, "God's finger is here" about the lands of St.Norbert. Maybe he was right -- there is something about the spot at which the Trappist Monastery and Peace Pagoda stand. Visiting the pagoda, I was excited to see that the monastery ruins, too, have come a long way. They are not the decaying teen hangout they once were. Far from it, in fact. The pagoda, however, built just 12 years ago, may already be in a state of decay matching the monastery itself.
Not far from the monastery was our actual destination for the evening: A Maze in Corn. We were not very successful at finding the treasures hidden in the maze, but it was fantastic to take another trip out to "the farm" especially in the incredibly beautiful lands south of Winnipeg. A corn maze, a petting zoo, a hay pyramid: there was something for everyone.
