and he would be asleep without fuss or incident within 5 minutes. Those days are no more. Over the last half year, however, we've seen Rai shift that bedtime back, minute by minute, quarter hour by quarter hour.
Kotaru, on the other hand, is not even a fraction of the sleeper that Rai once was. He's never gone to bed before 7p.m. and even when we do get him into the crib, getting him to fall asleep can be a 30-minute ordeal.
Meanwhile, Rai continues to try to find new ways to stay up longer. His best technique, of course, is to have us keep reading books to him. How can we say no? He's reading and, as he likes to tell us, he's happy. And, as we read to Rai, we can hear Ko's voice shouting in the distance. Over and over again, we return to his room to find him standing in the crib, calling out for us. When he finally does fall asleep, it's a reluctant slumber. He still wakes several times per night and it's rare that he doesn't spend the second half of the night with us in bed. What happened to those restful evenings we once had?
